Special engineering plastics is a new generation of high performance polymer materials promoted by the market demand of the Cold War between the United States and the Soviet Union and Ukraine crisis. At the beginning, it was once called high temperature resistant polymer materials. At the present stage, it is generally called special engineering plastics or high performance polymer. The special engineering plastics refers to the development of a new class of high-performance polymer materials after ordinary plastics and rubber products. It has many characteristics that other materials can not take into account, such as high temperature resistance, fatigue resistance, corrosion resistance, wear resistance, radiation resistance, high toughness, high wear resistance, excellent electrical properties, good dimensional stability, etc. Whether it is for national defense, aviation, aerospace, shipbuilding and other industries, or for household appliances, electronic devices/communications, vehicles, medical machinery, petrochemical and other military and civilian industries with high and new technology rapid development, are indispensable and revolutionary materials. Since the introduction of polyacrylonitrile (PI) in the 1960s and the commercialization of PEEK in the 1980s, the key varieties developed and designed to achieve success and industrial development are: 1. Polyacrylonitrile (PI); 2. Acrylic imide (PAI); Polyether imide (PEI); 3. 4. Poly (-polymer); 5. Polyphenyl ether (PPS); 7. Polyether sulfone (PES); 8. Polyether ether ketone (PEEK), etc. The main characteristics of special engineering plastics compared with the other two categories of materials can be summarized as follows: 1) Physical properties :a. High heat resistance rating (generally defined as UL temperature index value above 150C); b. High structural mechanical strength (generally 2~4 times); c. Excellent comprehensive performance (such as radiation resistance, high temperature resistance, weather resistance). 2) Production process level: a. High production and processing temperature (generally 300~400C); b. High injection pressure (generally 120MPa~ 160MPa); c. The grinding tools must be heated (the opposite of refrigeration); d. Hot runner system is preferred. 3) The added value is high (generally a ton in the middle of 10,000 ~ 100,000 yuan, seeking dozens of times). 4) Long induction period for market expansion. 5) There are several large enterprises monopolizing the production and supply of each variety. Special engineering plastic characteristics are more excellent, different, but there is no mass production, the main purpose is relatively small. This material is mainly used in electronic and electrical, automotive industry, military and aerospace and other business fields. Through European and American countries and other countries in turn invested large amounts of money in scientific research design and development, has developed about dozens of varieties, but finally as materials to complete the industrial development of less than 10. Polyphenyl ether is widely used and large scale at present. It should be noted that since the introduction of such new materials in the 1980s due to the special defense environment, Western countries have banned and banned the sale of these materials as munitions. However, in recent years, China's demand for special engineering plastics has increased at a particularly fast rate.
